The Pack a.d Mix Tape Contest

The Pack a.d. ‘s new album “we kill computers” is out on April 27th and the band is going on the road…again. Their van, Falcon, doesn’t like the iPod hook up though. Maybe because it’s 13 years old. Or maybe b…ecause 13 year old’s, who are vans, seem to really like cassette tapes. Either way though, the band needs new music to listen to when they hit the road. So they are excited to announce “The Pack a.d. Mix Tape Contest”!

Here are the contest particulars and rules according to the band

“Do you have an old mixed tape you would like to send us? Or the capability to make a new mixed cassette tape? We are down with all sorts of music and would love to listen to music you think we should listen to. If you have a burning desire to sit around for hours pouring your blood, sweat and tears into the Ultimate Mix Tape, just for us…or at least the desire to throw your old mix tapes into an envelope and mail them then we would be forever grateful. And you, in turn, can win some great prizes! However, we only want homemade tapes OK? So, no copies of Much Dance 2000 or the like, please…those jokes are really old…and only 99 cents at Value Village…and we already have that one.”

Here is what you can win:

1st prize - a signed poster and CD, a signed cymbal, a vinyl copy of “we kill computers” as well as a Pack AD shirt and beverage cozy in a Mint tote bag.

2nd prize - a signed poster and CD in a Mint tote bag and a vinyl copy of their “we kill computers”

3rd prize - a signed poster and CD and a vinyl copy of “we kill computers”

Here is how you enter:

Simply send a cassette entry to the address below to arrive no later than May 21st. Then after the The Pack a.d get back from their European tour with NoMeansNo, they will take it on the road with them, pop it into Falcon’s cassette deck and turn up the volume as they head across western Canada with The Sadies. The band will decide the winners and notify them at the end of the tour.

Following through on 2008’s devastating one-two punch (January’s Tintype & August’s Funeral Mixtape), we kill computers is the Pack a.d.’s third album and it marks a bold departure away from the blues and headfirst into straight up garage rock/pop/punk. Recorded live off the floor to analog tape at Hive Studios in Vancouver by Jesse Gander (Japandroids, Bison b.c.) and then mastered at GhettoRecorders in Detroit by Jim Diamond (Dirtbombs, Detroit Cobras), we kill computers is a rapid fire assault of 13 heavy, heavy songs.

When The Pack a.d. plays a show they hand the audience their guts - and they did just, 157 times in 2009 alone. That’s why we kill computers, a full year in the making, captures that same live energy – fierce, unapologetic, and loud as hell. Lyrically, The Pack a.d. offers up their general mistrust of humans and their motives, while tipping off that animals have got it right. Sonically charged and relentless, The Pack a.d. don’t play a song so much as attack it - and we kill computers is them coming at you at a run.

2009 - We toured like hell and back and played 157 shows

So, this year, we’re thinking…it’ll be more of the same. So, keep your eyes peeled - the show madness officially begins in March, with a little teaser in January in Alaska.

This year will also mark the release of our third album. We’re going to be dropping some hints about this album as time goes on but for now - all you gotta know is this…

Touring with the Pink Mountaintops and Nomeansno

The Pack A.D. have been touring non-stop this year, and their old-school approach of winning fans over one by one with their explosive live shows is paying off. They’ve won over some new fans in the Pink Mountaintops and Nomeansno. Both the Pink Mountaintops and Nomeansno have invited the Pack A.D. to tour with them. So, Maya and Becky are resting for a few weeks before they gear up for another busy fall tour.

First, they will be heading over to the UK for the End of the Road Festival, as well as a couple of shows in London - one of them for hip new zine, Riot On The Rocks. Then they jet straight home to hit the road with the Pink Mountaintops from Sept 18th - 27th. After a brief trip to Montreal for the PopMontreal Festival they head back out on the with their new pals Nomeansno (Oct 7th-14th). But the fun doesn’t end there… they’ve been invited back for the 2nd year in a row, to play the Blues DC Festival in Bogota Colombia. After that, they’ll be flying off to the Halifax Pop Explosion and CMJ Music Marathon, before finishing off the fall with three weeks of solo dates in both the US and Canada.

The Pack A.D. are going to play some music and have some drinks - so all you have to do is show up and bring your friends!

Be sure to check out their amazing new video for “Blackout” where they team up with Grant Lawrence and the CBC Radio 3 crew for a late night dance party! Watch it <a title="The Pack AD's "Blackout" on YouTube" href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=REIiuPkeDsE "target=”_new”>here.
